This is the most direct and popular route to the summit of Snaefell. Starting from the Bungalow (accessible via the Mountain Road or Electric Railway), follow the clear path that climbs steadily to the summit. The path is well-trodden, and the summit offers stunning views across the island.

Laxey to Snaefell (Circular Route via Agneash and Laxey Valley)

Moderate

Begin in Laxey and ascend through the picturesque village of Agneash, passing the Laxey Wheel. Continue on to Snaefell through open moorland, then descend via a different path that loops back through Laxey Valley Gardens. A varied route with cultural and natural highlights.

This challenging ridge walk starts at Sulby Reservoir and takes in Clagh Ouyr and North Barrule before reaching Snaefell. The route offers rugged terrain, steep ascents, and breathtaking views, ideal for experienced walkers seeking a more adventurous approach.

Ramsey to Snaefell (via Sky Hill and Clagh Ouyr)

Hard

A longer but rewarding route for seasoned hikers. Starting from Ramsey, ascend Sky Hill before traversing the ridge to Clagh Ouyr and eventually Snaefell. This route provides a mix of forested paths and exposed ridges with dramatic scenery throughout.

There is parking available at The Bungalow, which is the main starting point for many hikes up Snaefell.

Public Transport

The Isle of Man has a bus service that can take you to the Bungalow. Additionally, the Snaefell Mountain Railway provides an entertaining ride up the mountain.

While there are limited facilities on the mountain, Laxey below has several cafes and pubs to refuel after your adventure.
