At the Summit

The summit of Clach Glas features a prominent rock outcrop, perfect for a selfie that will make your friends green with envy. It's also a great spot for perching with your sandwich, as long as the midges aren't friendly.

Terrain & Geology

Rocky and rugged with some grassy patches particularly on the ascent.

Clach Glas is primarily composed of schist, which is a metamorphic rock that allows for those stunning, jagged rock faces that define its silhouette. It provides an interesting glimpse into the geological history of the Highlands, revealing millions of years of tectonic processes.

Views & Scenery

From the summit, enjoy breathtaking views of the Cuillin range to the south, the Isle of Skye, and Loch Coruisk, with its mystical allure that has inspired countless tales.

From here, the route heads across to Clach Glas, requiring hands-on scrambling along exposed ridges. This traverse is often referred to as the 'Matterhorn of Skye' due to its sharp pinnacles and steep drops. The return is via the descent path from Bla Bheinn.

Very Difficult

Starting at the same Bla Bheinn car park (NG560217), this route takes a more direct approach to Clach Glas by following the northern ridge. For those less confident, an alternative ascent to Bla Bheinn can be taken directly from the coire. Descend via the main Bla Bheinn path.
