Derrymore Glen Route
ModerateThis is the most popular route to Caherconree, starting from Derrymore Glen. The ascent begins from the car park at the foot of the glen and follows a well-trodden path along the Caherconree Stream. The climb becomes steeper as you approach the remains of the Caherconree Promontory Fort, offering breathtaking views of Tralee Bay and the Slieve Mish Mountains. From the fort, the summit is a short but steep climb further to the south.
Camp Village Loop
ChallengingThis circular route begins from Camp Village, following a narrow country road to the base of Caherconree. From here, a boggy trail leads up the mountain’s northern slopes. After reaching the summit, the route descends on the western ridge and loops back to the village, providing varied scenery, including coastal views and lush countryside.
Glenna Chairn Spur
Moderate to ChallengingStarting from the Glenna Chairn car park, this route takes a direct approach to Caherconree via the eastern spur. The path is less defined but offers a quieter and more remote experience. The climb is steep in places, particularly near the summit, but the views of the Dingle Peninsula and Brandon Bay are worth the effort.
Derrymore to Baurtregaum Traverse
StrenuousThis route is ideal for experienced hikers looking for a longer adventure. Starting from Derrymore Glen, the trail climbs to Caherconree before continuing along the ridge to Baurtregaum, the highest peak in the Slieve Mish range. The descent is via a southern spur back to Derrymore, completing a rugged and scenic traverse.
Annagh Church Access
ChallengingThis lesser-known route begins near Annagh Church and follows a faint trail through heathland and bog before climbing Caherconree’s southern slopes. It’s a more isolated and quieter approach, with stunning views over Tralee Bay and the surrounding countryside. Note that navigation can be tricky on this route due to the lack of defined paths.
