Braeriach via the Chalamain Gap
ChallengingThis popular route begins at the Sugarbowl car park near the Cairngorm Ski Centre. The path leads through the Chalamain Gap, a rocky boulder field, before descending into the Lairig Ghru. From there, an ascent begins up the Sron na Lairige ridge, offering stunning views of the Cairngorm plateau. The final stretch to the summit of Braeriach includes breathtaking vistas over the corries and the River Dee source.
Braeriach via Whitewell and Rothiemurchus
ChallengingThis route starts at Whitewell, following paths through the ancient Rothiemurchus Forest. After entering the Lairig Ghru, the trail ascends steadily up the western flanks of Braeriach. This longer approach provides a more gradual climb and offers opportunities to spot wildlife in the forest and high moorland.
Braeriach and the Cairn Toul Traverse
Very ChallengingAn epic route that combines Braeriach with Cairn Toul and Sgor an Lochain Uaine (The Angel’s Peak). Starting from the Linn of Dee car park, the route follows the Lairig Ghru past Corrour Bothy before ascending steeply onto the plateau. After summiting Cairn Toul and The Angel’s Peak, hikers continue to Braeriach before descending back into the Lairig Ghru. A demanding yet unforgettable adventure.
Braeriach via Coire Dhondail
ChallengingThis less-traveled route begins at the Sugarbowl car park and ascends through Coire Dhondail. It avoids the Chalamain Gap, instead taking a more direct approach to the summit. Though quieter, the route still offers fantastic views of the surrounding corries and the expanse of the Cairngorm plateau.
Braeriach from Glen Feshie
Very ChallengingA remote and scenic route beginning in Glen Feshie. The trail follows the river before ascending into the high plateau via Sgor Gaoith. This approach to Braeriach is longer and requires excellent navigation skills, but it rewards hikers with solitude and expansive mountain views.
